On Sunday, April 1st Occidental College's
Women's Rugby Team played Claremont's Rugby Team. Though the game
was forfeited by Claremont due to unfortunate low numbers that day,
we still scrimmaged with Occidental teammates playing for both
sides. Marlys Larson was named "man of the match" by Claremont for
her good runs and defensive play. Thank you Claremont for playing
some good rugby!
On Saturday, April 7th Occidental College's
Women's Rugby team won their game against USC. The final score of
the game was 22 to 20. Dominique Ross, Sophie Putka, Liz Wells, and
Tasha Tang all scored tries. Dominique Ross also scored the
tie-breaking conversion kick. Diana Ortiz was named "named man of
the match" by USC. We would like to thank USC for such an
even-matched and challenging game!
On Sunday February 29th, Occidental Women's Rugby team won their match against University of California Long Beach. The final score was 22 to 19. Sophie Putka's cross field tackles were notable, and Mary Atyemizian's presence in the rucks made her an exceptional player in the game. Maggie Berrigan was named MVP by UCLB's team for her tackles and defensive play. Stella Keck and Liz Wells both scored tries. Jasmine Tovar scored two tries, including the winning try in the last 30 seconds of the match. The team thanks UCLB for such a great match.
On February 4th, Occidental College's Women's
Rugby team played the University of Arizona. Our team showed a good
amount of persistence in the game, and had a strong second half.
Tori Halote was recognizable with several good runs during her
first game as a wing. Maggie Berrigan was named "Man of the Match"
by Arizona because of her tackles. Overall, the game in Arizona was
a good one and our team learned a lot.
On Saturday February 18, Occidental College's
Women's Rugby Team won against California Lutheran University. The
score was 23-7 Occidental. Hana Kaneshige, Dominique Ross, Sophie
Putka, and Jasmine Tovar all scored tries, and Dominique scored two
conversion kicks. Tori Halote and Jasmine Tovar both had good runs.
Overall, it was a good game for our team, and we wish Cal Lu the
best of luck with the rest of their season!
On October 22 Oxy Women's Rugby played California State Long Beach's women's rugby team, and tied with one try each. Rookie, Stella Keck made our try during the first half. Shout outs to Sophie Putka and Dominique Ross, who both made good runs. Also, shout outs to our several new rookies who got to play for the first time. Thank you, CSULB women's rugby for such a great first game of the year! We can't wait to get to play them again.
Occidental Women’s Rugby made a strong showing in San Diego
at the SCRRS tournament Scrum By the Sea on November 5th and 6th.
They faced the University of Southern California, Claremont
colleges, University of Arizona, University of California Santa
Cruz, and University of California, Los Angeles. Stella Keck,
Jasmin Tovar, and Sophie Putka all scored tries. Kate
Bustamante and Diana Ortiz made notable runs, and Hannah Hall
started strong in her first tournament as hooker. Oxy lost by a
conversion kick to Claremont, but hope to win against them in their
upcoming game on Saturday, November 19th.
