The track was originally dirt in its current location. Artificial surface was installed in 1983 to served as training facility for 1984 Olympics on what was and still is considered a fast track. The venue was later named for Bill Henry, class of 1914 and former LA Times sports editor. The Bill Henry Track is home to the Men's and Women's Track and Field teams in the Spring. In 2017, a secondary high jump pit and new pole vault runway were installed.
