Oxy comeback falls short against Puget Sound

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 18, 2010) The Black and Orange fell behind 8-3 after one half of play. As the visiting Loggers controlled both ends of the field for the first 30 minutes, but then the Tigers came alive, cutting the lead to two at 10-12 with just ten minutes to play. Puget Sound responded and sent the Tigers home with another close loss by the final score of 17-13.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 17, 2010) The Black and Orange jumped out quickly, taking a 2-0 lead that held up for the first nine minutes of the contest, before Frostburg responded with four straight goals. Oxy battled back to close the gap by halftime, trailing 6-5, but thats as close as they would get. As the Bobcats exploded for 12 goals in the second half, while holding the Tigers to just two goals, rolling to an 18-7 win.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 17, 2010) The Black and Orange fell behind 3-0 after doubles, but then came up with two dominating wins in singles, to cut the lead to one. But the visiting Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls ripped off four straight wins to lock up the 7-2 win.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 16, 2010) The Black and Orange opened up a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the dual match. Only to see Amherst come alive in singles and dominate, winning six consecutive matches without dropping a set, to take home a 7-2 win.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 15, 2010) In a game marked by runs, Oxy was on the wrong end of the final momentum swing, falling to the visiting Tigers of Sewanee College 23-17. The game had the makings of a blowout early on, as the purple and white Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead, in less than seven minutes of play. Trailing by five going into halftime, Oxy stormed out of the locker room with six unanswered goals to take the lead. But momentum switched jerseys one final time, as Sewanee responded with a 10-3 run to end the game.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 13, 2010) In only their fourth game as an NCAA sanctioned sport, the Black and Orange earned another first in program history, a victory. Not only did they pick up the win, but they did it in commanding fashion, sending the Carthage College Lady Reds home with their fourth straight defeat on their spring break trip, by the final score of 17-7.
REDLANDS, Calif. (Mar. 13, 2010) - The Occidental softball team traveled to Redlands today to play two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games against the University of Redlands. In game one, the Tigers fell to the Bulldogs 12-1, in six innings, and in game two, they lost 5-1.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 13, 2010) Today on the Bill Henry Track on the campus of Occidental College, the Tigers hosted their first dual meet in more than a decade. Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival, Pomona-Pitzer traveled to Eagle Rock where the Tigers and Sagehens battled it out on the track and in the field.

The Tigers duked it out with the Oaks in game one, going 12 exhausting innings, only to fall 7-6. In game two, with a deficit early on, the Tigers tried to fight their way back to victory, but eventually lost 10-5.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Mar. 10, 2010) The Black and Orange jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in their non conference match up with Ohio Wesleyan, only to see the visiting Bishops battle back to take a 10-6 halftime lead. The Tigers ratcheted up the defense in the second half and held the Bishops to only four second half goals, unfortunately they could only muster five of their own, and although they were within two for most of the second half, they could never overtake the east coast visitors and eventually ran out of time in a 14-11 loss.

(March 8, 2010) - The Tigers won two and lost two this weekend, but not before grabbing their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference win of the 2010 season. The Tigers took on Pomona-Pitzer College on Saturday, dropping game one, 9-1 and winning game two, 3-1. On Monday, Oxy hosted Wheaton College (Ill.), losing game one, 4-0 but coming back to win game two, 3-2.

(Mar. 9, 2010) Frustrating day for the Tigers ended in a 6-3 loss to the University of Texas Tyler, as Oxy played well at the beginning of doubles and singles, but could not keep that momentum going in the latter stages of the match. PASADENA, Calif. (March 6, 2010) In the first Multi-Dual meet of the season the Occidental College Tigers womens track and field team came home with a slim one-point, 82-81, victory over the University of Redlands and cruised past Caltech 143-20 to remain undefeated in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action today on the campus of Caltech. The mens squad pulled out a 116-40 win over the Beavers, but fell to the Bulldogs, 117-45.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (March 5, 2010) In the first game of the day the Tigers were out-matched by the Cal Berkeley Bears, 16-4, but more heart-breaking was an 8-7 loss in the waning seconds to Fresno Pacific at the Samuelson Aquatics Center this afternoon.

(March 3, 2010) Following the 2009-10 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mens basketball season a pair of Occidental College Tigers landed on All-SCIAC teams with Jack Hanley earning First Team honors and Deshun McCoy making the Second Team as the only freshman to earn league recognition.

ORANGE, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2010) After opening the 2010 season down a few players as they completed the 2009-10 swim season for Occidental College, the womens water polo team is back together as a singular unit. At this weekends Chapman Invitational the Tigers played four competitive teams, and came home with an opening game victory.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2010) Heavy rain over night and more in the forecast has forced Occidental College to reschedule numerous events today. Among those postponed to tomorrow are baseball and mens tennis, while womens tennis will play next weekend and softball has been cancelled with a reschedule date unlikely. While those contests have been washed away with the rain, the womens lacrosse team will play as scheduled in their Inaugural home game on Patterson Field.

The third meeting between the University of Redlands and the Tigers was marked with great defense that resulted in both teams shooting under 35% from the field, putting each possession under intense scrutiny, as every score put each team one step closer to an NCAA tournament berth. It took overtime to finally decide a winner, and the Bulldogs got the better of this match up, escaping Rush Gymnasium with a 55-54 victory.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2010) In the first ever NCAA home womens lacrosse game, the Tigers came out fired up and put on a spirited performance, before falling 16-12 to the Whittier College Poets.
PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2010) Today the Tigers kicked off a weekend series with the Beavers from Caltech down the road in Pasadena where Occidental College earned an 11-4 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory. Freshman Cory Popham tossed just 3.0 innings, but earned his third victory in as many tries. The righty struck out four and walked just one as he allowed no runs.
CLAREMONT, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2010) Trailing by 10 points at halftime, the Tigers erased that deficit with a 12-1 run to open the second half of action, but despite eight ties and six lead changes, Occidental College saw its season come to an end at the hands of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags before a packed house at Ducey Gymnasium tonight.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2010) Both teams finished their respective 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference seasons tied. The womens team placed first, with the mens team knotted in a three-way tie for second. A share of the womens SCIAC title, put the Tigers as the No. 1 seed and they will host No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday, while the men, who dropped to the No. 4 seed will be at CMS on Friday to play the No. 1 seeded Stags.
REDLANDS, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2010) The Tigers took to the tees today where Occidental College placed third in their second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match of the season. At the East Redlands Country Club, the Black and Orange combined to shoot a 304 to place third among the eight teams competing.

(Feb. 25, 2010) A term that is used way to often in sports, but one that perfectly describes the clash that took place tonight in Rush Gymnasium between the Athenas and Tigers, because it truly was a shame that either of these determined squads had to lose tonight. Playing like they were the top seed for most of the second half, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps opened up a 10 point lead with ten minutes left in the game, and held a one point lead with three minutes remaining. But Oxy responded with a 7-2 run, fueled by the defense of Dior Williams, to will themselves past the upset minded squad from Claremont, in the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post season tournament, by the final score of 72-69.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (Feb. 25, 2010) - The Tigers fell in non conference action today to the Chapman Panthers. Although the Panthers won by the final score of 7-2, a few bounces in their favor and Oxy could have walked away with a victory, as each match was that close.
REDLANDS, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2010) The result did not favor Oxy, but the fact that Redlands and Occidental faced off in a conference match up in womens lacrosse was very positive, as it had shown how far the sport had grown in Southern California. This was the first year that the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sponsored womens lacrosse, and Redlands took home the inaugural win 18-3.
CLAREMONT, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2010) In the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finale there was excitement all over the league. With playoff pairings being discussed for the last 72 hours with every what-if scenario brought to the table, it all panned out tonight in three different gymnasiums. For starters, the Occidental College Tigers had their destiny in their own hands. With a win, they would have clinched the No. 2 seed and home court advantage for the first round of the SCIAC Post Season Tournament. Unfortunately, Pomona-Pitzer stole that opportunity from the Black and Orange, with a 55-54 victory, shooting the Sagehens from the No. 5 seed to No. 2 when all was said and done, leaving Oxy as No. 4. The Tigers loss, coupled with Cal Lutheran and La Verne wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands, respectively, set the table for Friday night.
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2010) As the three day, 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships came to a close, the Occidental College Tigers return to campus with a number of new school records, many personal bests and a sense of accomplishment.

(Feb. 23, 2010) The 2010 Womens Lacrosse team will hear the word first quite a few times, which began when head coach Michele Uhlfelder was chosen as the first womens lacrosse head coach in school history back in November, and hasnt stopped even after five weeks of Fall practices and two scrimmages. The notable firsts continue, as the opening week of the regular season begins this Wednesday, February 24th, with Oxy taking the field as an NCAA sanctioned sport for the first time ever.
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2010) It was a new day at Belmont Plaza, but the results were the same for junior diver Sarah Sharpe. Not only did she earn her second title of the weekend, but she set a new meet record and qualified for NCAA Nationals with a B cut in the process. Day two of the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships were just as exciting as the opening day.

(Feb. 21, 2010) Although the Tigers and Kingsmen were forced to reconvene on the baseball diamond Sunday at noon to finish game two of the double header started on Saturday, after the game was halted due to darkness, the outcome was the same with CLU defeating Oxy by four runs, 9-5.
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2010) For the next three days the Occidental College mens and womens swimming and diving teams will compete at the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Belmont Plaza. A well rested squad will look to set some personal bests while sinking some school records in the process.

(Feb. 20, 2010) After falling 6-4 in the opening day of a twin bill at Anderson Field, the Occidental College Tigers and Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen will be back on the diamond Sunday at noon to finish game two of the double dip, game three of the series, after darkness put a stop to the game after seven innings this afternoon. CLU currently leads 8-4.
WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010) - Oxy was coming off its second straight conference loss, falling 8-1 to Pomona Pitzer on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning they traveled to regionally ranked Whittier College in search of their first conference win, racing out a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the dual match. The Poets did not go away, winning three straight singles matches to cut into the lead, but the Tigers held on for the 6-3 win.
