LARKIN, HAZZAA IN THE TOP 20 AT INDUSTRY HILLS
INDUSTRY — Andrew Larkin (Los Angeles) shot a 5-over 76, Rammi Hazzaa (Hercules) posted a 77 and the Occidental College men's golf team finished in sixth with a team score of 321 at the third SCIAC tournament of the year at Industry Hills Golf Course on Thursday.
Larkin finished tied for 14th overall, the third time in three SCIAC tournaments that he's finished among the top 20. The senior's best round came in SCIAC No. 1 when he was sixth at Sterling Hills GC.
"Larkin was solid as always," Occidental coach Erik Johnson said. "Overall we need to be a little bit more consistent."
Hazza had his second best day of the spring. He posted Oxy's top score at Sterling Hills, finishing in fifth with a 2-over 74 on Feb. 12.
"I'm very proud of Rammi," Johnson said. "He's scored very well for us now in two SCIAC tournaments. His improvement is a direct correlation to his work ethic and practice."
Redlands' Perry Johnson was the low medalist with a 68 and the Bulldogs as a team won the tournament with a 292.
Freshman Miles Cole (Los Alamitos) posted a 82, Oxy's third-best score.
The Tigers let another opportunity slip away a bit, but they're still confident about their chances with two SCIAC tournaments and the SCIAC championships still left on the schedule.
"We had a very good opportunity to make strides in conference, but we came up a little bit short," Johnson said. "We're still encouraged that we can make a run at this thing."
The Tigers are back on the course at Via Verde for SCIAC # 4 on April 1.
