LOS ANGELES — Andrew Johnson led four players in double figures with 25 points as the Occidental men's basketball team overcame a down shooting night in a 72-64 win over West Coast Baptist on Tuesday.
Johnson, who was named the SCIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, went 10 for 17 from the field and had seven rebounds. He's averaging 21 ppg and has scored at least 20 points in each of the last three.
Jay Miller had 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Tigers. Joe Compagno chipped in 10 points and four steals, Ryan Kaneshiro had 10 points and eight rebounds and Austin Dewitz scored nine points.
The Tigers shot just 37 percent in the first half, holding a 30-28 lead at the break. In the second half, Oxy fell behind by as many as five in the second half.
With the score tied at 63 and 3:07 remaining, Johnson and Miller had consecutive baskets to put Oxy in the driver's seat up 66-62.
Daniel Foster led West Coast Baptist with 19 points, including five three-pointers. He made tough shots throughout the game and scored 13 points in the second half, but missed difficult shots late in the game.
