Johnson's Triple-Double Not Enough at Cal Lu

THOUSAND OAKSAndrew Johnson posted a triple-double and Jay Miller had an outstanding night shooting the ball.

But the Occidental men's basketball team came out flat on defense and struggled to get stops in an 84-75 loss at Cal Lutheran on Thursday.

Johnson, the SCIAC's leading scorer at 20.9 ppg, scored 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had 10 assists. 

Miller went 4 for 6 from the 3-point line, finishing with 20 points.

Zach Baines added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Jeevin Sandhu scored 12 off of the bench for the Tigers.

Oxy gave up 48 points in the first half, getting beat in transition and struggling to contain the ball on drives to the basket. 

The Tigers cut a big Kingsmen lead to single digits in the second half by fouling to extend the game. Cal Lu missed free throws, but the Tigers were never able to get closer than seven points.

Wolfgang Wood led all scorers with 26 points, Blake Miles had 20 on 9 for 10 shooting, and Caleb Richey had five points and 11 assists. 

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 12-9 overall and 4-8 in SCIAC play.

Cal Lutheran improves to 15-6 and 8-4.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Redlands (7-14, 3-9) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
