The 6-foot-5 senior from Stamford, Conn. scored 50 points in a win over Pacific (Ore.) on 22 of 26 shooting, setting Oxy's single-game scoring record on Dec. 18. The previous record was 47 set by Sam Betty against Redlands in 2006.
Baines averaged 31.7 ppg and 7 rpg in three games on the week, shooting 70 percent from the field and 12-15 from the free throw line. He was one of five players in the country recognized.
Baines has been a major part of Oxy's 12-0 overall start and 3-0 start to SCIAC play with wins at La Verne and at home against Whittier and Chapman. He's currently leading all SCIAC players with 23 ppg overall this season and is averaging 7.4 rpg, while shooting 58 percent from the field.
