Hanley, McCoy earn All-SCIAC honors

(March 3, 2010) Following the 2009-10 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mens basketball season a pair of Occidental College Tigers landed on All-SCIAC teams with Jack Hanley earning First Team honors and Deshun McCoy making the Second Team as the only freshman to earn league recognition.

(Feb. 27, 2010) Trailing by 10 points at halftime, the Tigers erased that deficit with a 12-1 run to open the second half of action, but despite eight ties and six lead changes, Occidental College saw its season come to an end at the hands of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags before a packed house at Ducey Gymnasium tonight.

The womens team placed first, with the mens team knotted in a three-way tie for second. A share of the womens SCIAC title, put the Tigers as the No. 1 seed and they will host No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday, while the men, who dropped to the No. 4 seed will be at CMS on Friday to play the No. 1 seeded Stags.

With playoff pairings being discussed for the last 72 hours with every what-if scenario brought to the table, it all panned out tonight in three different gymnasiums. For starters, the Occidental College Tigers had their destiny in their own hands. With a win, they would have clinched the No. 2 seed and home court advantage for the first round of the SCIAC Post Season Tournament. Unfortunately, Pomona-Pitzer stole that opportunity from the Black and Orange, with a 55-54 victory, shooting the Sagehens from the No. 5 seed to No. 2 when all was said and done, leaving Oxy as No. 4. The Tigers loss, coupled with Cal Lutheran and La Verne wins over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands, respectively, set the table for Friday night.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2010) Tonight for the final time in the regular season, four seniors dressed in the Black and Orange to represent Occidental College on the hardwood in Rush Gymnasium. The outcome was a sensational one for a squad who is still competing for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Post Season Tournament berth. They took another step towards achieving that goal tonight with a 72-65 victory over the visiting University of Redlands before 1300 energetic fans in Rush Gymnasium.

(Feb. 17, 2010) As the final week of the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season approached, the Occidental College mens basketball team, sitting in third place, saw themselves with an opportunity to advance to the Post Season Tournament as they sat in third place. Tonight, they took one more step in the right direction as they defeated the University of La Verne 79-62 as the cats battled on the hardwood.
PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2010) The Caltech Beavers were thinking upset tonight, and for the first 10 minutes of this Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, they made everyone in the building into believers. Except for the Tigers, breaking up a one point game by ending the first half on 24-3 run that ended the upset bid, and kept the black and orange in the hunt for a playoff berth with the 72-41 road win.
