Bulldogs too much for Tigers

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2009) – The Occidental College men’s soccer team traveled to the University of Redlands to face the Bulldogs, but were unable to return home with a  victory as they fell 3-1 in their second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match of the season.

After back-to-back shutouts, Redlands scored a trio of goals against the black and orange.

The Bulldogs scored their first two goals in the first half, one from a shot outside of the penalty area and the other a near save by goalkeeper Ian Powell who finished with eight saves.

The offense came from the foot of junior Rob Tuttlebee. Just before halftime, in the 44th minute, Tuttlebee found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the only Tigers’ shot on goal in the game.

The third Bulldog goal came from another near save by Powell at the 65th minute of the game.

The Tigers record fell to 2-3 overall as they now sit at 1-1 in SCIAC play. After travelling east to Redlands today, the squad will head north on Wednesday, Sept. 23 to face off with the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen (2-4, 1-1 SCIAC). Kick-off is slated for 4:00 p.m..
