LOS ANGELES — The Occidental College men's tennis team flexed its depth again this past weekend, picking up a pair of wins against two squads from the Northwest Conference.

Oxy swept Puget Sound 9-0 on Friday, then defeated Pacific Lutheran 7-2 on Saturday, making it seven wins in eight games for the Tigers (10-3, 0-1 SCIAC).

With two victories each, No. 2 Jeremy Shapiro (Scottsdale) and No. 3 Jordan Brown (San Diego) both improved to 8-4 on the season. Both players have stood out on a balanced Oxy team that is interchangeable from No. 2 – No. 6, according the coach Brian Newhall.

"Our depth is our strength," Newhall said. "Different guys have been stepping up every match."

Stephen Perkins (Seattle), who could be a No. 2 or 3 on comparable teams, kept his unbeaten streak alive as Oxy's No. 4, improving to 12-0 in that spot and 13-0 overall.

Spencer Choy (Aiea, Hawaii) has been almost as good as the No. 5, winning his last eight.

The Tigers play their second SCIAC match of the season at Redlands on March 30, one Newhall and the Tigers are looking forward to.

"I love this team. They support each other and enjoy spending time with each other 100 percent," Newhall said. "We're excited about our upcoming matches and I think this team's best tennis is still ahead of them."
