LOS ANGELES — Oxy No. 1 Josh Dancu is starting to regain his form.
The 2014 First Team All-SCIAC selection won his second match of the season, defeating Justin Thompson in a close match at Scholl Canyon on Friday, 3-6, 6-4 (12-10).
The Occidental men's tennis team fell to the Panthers as a group 8-1, needing "to play better doubles" in order to improve in their next outing, according to coach Jordan Brown.
Dancu was the lone highlight. The senior found some good cross court forehand shots that helped him overcome fatigue in the third set tiebreaker.
"It was a grind. My energy started to come down, but I had my teammates on the side which helped me out," Dancu said. "Working the court with my forehand cross, inside out and just really being able to dictate play with the approach shots was huge for me today."
The next step for Dancu will be getting his serve in order as he tries to string together a couple of wins.
"I just have to find my serve more," Dancu said. "I had too many double faults there in that tiebreak. I think I had three double faults which would have been key points, so just finding more confidence as the season progresses."
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC play. They are ranked 14th in the West Region.
Next Match: Oxy returns to Scholl Canyon on Sunday for a non-conference match against Arizona Christian at 10 a.m. Oxy's next SCIAC match is against Cal Lutheran on Feb. 28.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
