LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's tennis team played solid tennis in a 7-2 win over Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday.
Oxy's record is now 3-5 overall.
The Tigers are back in action against Principia on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Saturday: Occidental 7, Wheaton 2
Lucas Chmielewski was unstoppable at No. 1 singles, breaking his opponent with a solid forehand and an off-pace slice. He took down Jorge Aguirre Martinez, 6-2, 6-2.
"It's been impressive to see Lucas come in as a first year and consistently have strong wins at No. 1," Oxy head coach Rachael Manasse. "He came into the season very prepared and read to compete. His results are a direct reflection of that."
Chmielewski and Isa Kibira came out hot at No. 2 doubles with strong moves at the net, winning easily over Aguirre Martinez and Ned Roosevelt, 8-0.
Oxy won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and won all but No. 3 singles, which was the toughest position in Wheaton's singles lineup.
As a group the Tigers improved on last year's result when they beat Wheaton just 5-4.
