LOS ANGELES — Playing without senior team captain Ivan Derrick, the Occidental men's tennis team stepped up in a big way in a 9-0 sweep of Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday night.
Dylan Morison played well at No. 6 singles, using a big serve and ground game, to take down his opponent Derek Stone 6-0, 6-1. He improves to 3-1 on the season in singles play.
Oxy's No. 1 doubles team of Cameron Coe and Lucas Chmielewski continued its hot streak, beating Marcus Lee and Michael Campbell in a relatively comfortable 8-4 victory. They used pinpoint return of serves to their opponents feet and displayed great hands at the net. The duo is now 8-4 on the season and has been one of the key highlights for the Oxy men's team with solid consistency.
Vincent Bartholomew and Christian Anderson teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles, beating Branson Near and Jake Kim, 8-2. The team did not face a single break point behind Bartholomew's impressive first-serve percentage of 80 percent. They were able to break the opponents three times also with consistent returns.
David Zhang and Joe Schwarcz won another match at No. 2 doubles, beating Hampus Eliasson and Justin DeMattos, 8-2 to improve to 6-4 on the season.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 5-7 on the season.
