AZUSA — Austin DeWitz keeps going higher.
The Occidental track and field star cleared 6-feet, 9-inches at Azusa Pacific on Thursday, matching his career-best mark. The two-time defending SCIAC champion in the event now sits at No. 19 in NCAA Division III, inching closer to a second consecutive nationals bid.
The junior, who is also a First Team All-SCIAC and All-West Region performer in basketball, now sets his sights on 6-10 at the Redlands Last Chance Meet next weekend.
"Austin's season started late because of a basketball injury so we expected him to come on strong these last few weeks of the season," Oxy high jump coach Dave Foley said. "I think he's just now getting to his peak form and I think he has more left in the tank because of his hard work ethic and ability to rise to the moment."
The rest of the Oxy men's and women's track and field teams are in action at the Oxy Invite on Saturday with running events beginning at 2:30 p.m.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
