Tigers Bounce Back, Defeate Chaffey

            Los Angeles…Coming off a conference loss earlier in the day against the University of La Verne, Occidental responded with a strong  18-6 win over Chaffey College.

            The Tigers exploded in the first quarter with five consecutive goals in the first four minutes of play to take a quick 5-0 lead.  Oxy maintained the pressure through the first quarter, adding four more scores to go ahead 9-0 and put the game out of reach after the first quarter.

            12 different Tigers scored in the game, including goalie Kyle Reuther (San Benito, CA), who notched is first career goal as a Tiger.  The Tigers spread the offense around all game with Nick Heffner (San Diego, CA), Sam Akiyama (Aptos, CA), Christian Erwin (Kentwood, MI), Joe Reynolds (Souderton, PA), Kirk Follette (Santa Monica, CA), and Jalen Lubbers (Grandville, MI) all posting two goals.  Lubbers, who subbed into the goal for the final quarter added three saves.

            Goalie Scott Churchman paced the defense in goal during the first half with seven blocks, two assists and a steal.  As a team Oxy amassed 30 steals.  Lubbers, Akiyama, and Richard Dybas (Los Banos, CA) led the team with three swipes apiece.

            The Tigers only drew three exclusions in the game, but converted all three opportunities.

            Occidental concludes the days triple header of water polo action with this evenings Alumni Match at 5:00pm.  Next Wednesday, November 2nd,  Oxy resumes SCIAC play with a game against Cal Lutheran.  The teams will square off at 4:00pm at Taylor Pool at Occidental College.
