Tigers One Goal Shy of Upset

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's water polo team gave Chapman a run for its money on Thursday, falling 14-13 at Taylor Pool.

Oxy refused to go away all game, but came up a little short of an upset victory.

The Tigers fell behind by five goals with 5 minutes remaining before scoring four unanswered to finish the game.

Matt Weiser, Leo Sonner and Elijah Havens all scored three goals for Oxy. Sonner and Havens also had two assists, and Sonner had four steals. 

Theo Bass, Walter Sandbloom, Brett Luch and Alex Marlott rounded out Oxy's scorers with a goal each.

Jeff O'Brien led the Panthers with four games and Cameron Genetti added three.

Oxy was just 4 of 10 on power plays while Chapman was an efficient 5 of 6. 

Season Impact: Oxy is still in search of its first win, falling to 0-21 and 0-8.

Chapman improves to 10-11 and 6-2.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Cal Lutheran at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Panthers play at La Verne on Saturday.
