Oxy Opens SCIAC Season Against Pomona-PItzer

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's water polo team opened its home and SCIAC schedule against Pomona-Pitzer at Taylor Pool on Wednesday.

Pomona-Pitzer, the nation's No. 16 team in all divisions combined, beat Oxy 20-4. The Sagehens are ranked ahead of NCAA Division I teams like Santa Clara, Cal Baptist and Brown.

Hayden Comerford, Nicolas Lipari, Walter Sandbloom and Jason Teng all scored goals for Oxy. Elijah Havens had one assist, Cian Concannon drew three exclusions and goalie Henry Grady had 11 saves.

Sam Sasaki and Adam Ward led the Sagehens with three goals each.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in SCIAC. The Tigers opened the season with wins over Chaffey, Santa Monica and Rio Hondo.

Pomona-Pitzer improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at the San Diego Mesa tournament this weekend, beginning on Friday against San Diego Mesa at 1:40 p.m.
