Oxy Offense Scores 20 Against Washington & Jefferson

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's water polo team had 10 players find the net in an offensive explosion as the Tigers beat Washington and Jefferson 20-5.

"I'm happy with the way we approached today's game. We had a plan to be active on defense, which we executed," Oxy head coach Jack Stabenfeldt said. "There are still learning moments for our group, and we need to continue approaching each day correctly. When we rely on our fundamentals and trust the game plan, good things happen. Our consistency will be tested this week and next with difficult conference opponents."

Walter Sandbloom had an amazing day in the water, converting four of his six shots for goals, while assisting on four others. Jasper Lee and Jason Teng added three goals in the winning effort. Starting Goalie Henry Grady allowed five goals, but managed to add four saves, six steals and three assists to his name today.

With the win the Tigers move on to 10-6 on the year while Washington and Jefferson College falls to 4-12. 

The Tigers started their day off within the first minute of play when Elijah Havens scored the first goal of the game on a pass from by Alex Marlott. The Tigers would go on to score three more goals in the quarter, bringing their lead 4-2 at the end of the 1st.

The Tigers would continue to dominate the game in the second quarter. They scored six goals in the quarter to the Presidents one. Jasper Lee and Elijah Havens would score their second goals of the game in the quarter. At halftime, the Tigers had a demanding 10-3 lead over the Presidents.

Occidental would shutout the Washington and Jefferson in the third period. Scoring four goals of their own to add to their lead, the Tigers would not allow a goal in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the tigers would continue their offensive day by adding six more goals. The Presidents would answer with two of their own. 

Occidental returns to the water Wednesday when they travel down to Whitter California to take on SCIAC rival Whittier College. Match will start at 7:00 PM.
