CLAREMONT — Keenan Leary finished sixth overall and the Occidental men's cross country team took fourth at the NCAA Division III West Regional at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
Leary, Oxy's No. 1, finished the 8K in 25:29.89. He qualifies for the NCAA Division III Nationals next weekend for finishing among the top 7 individuals not on a qualifying team.
Pomona-Pitzer took home the regional championship, with UC Santa Cruz surprising everyone in second place and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps taking third.
Both Pomona-Pitzer and UC Santa Cruz earn the conference's automatic bids. CMS and Oxy will have to wait on possible at-large bids determined on Sunday morning's selection show. It is unlikely that Oxy's entire team will earn a bid to the NCAA Nationals.
SCIAC Men's Runner of the Year Andy Reischling of Pomona-Pitzer took first overall with a time of 25:04.04.
Thomas Robertson was Oxy's second man to finish at 26:02.62 in 15th place, followed by Michael Caballero in 34th at 26:37.85, Jovani Barajas in 35th at 26:39.61 and Tristan Santos in 40th at 26:52.32.
Leary, Robertson, Caballero and Barajas earn All-Region honors for finishing in the top 35.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
