LOS ANGELES — Dallas Boyce pitched a gem, blanking the Puget Sound bats for more than seven innings.
But in the eighth inning the Loggers got to Boyce for a pair of runs and the Occidental softball team couldn't answer in the bottom half, falling 2-1 at Bell Field on Sunday.
Boyce pitched eight innings, giving up just one earned run. She had a no-hitter going until the Loggers got their first hit in the sixth.
With international tiebreaker rules in play, Puget Sound started off the eighth with a runner on second base. Amanda Popovich doubled to center, breaking the 0-0 tie. She advance to third on a sacrifice fly and then scored the Loggers' second run on a wild pitch.
The Tigers nearly made a comeback in the bottom of the eighth. Natalie Glover, who finished 1 for 3, doubled in Madison Romero and moved Nyla Gatison to third base. Oxy made the next two outs though and couldn't bring Gatison across the plate tie it.
Gatison, Oxy's first year leadoff hitter, finished the day 2 for 3 with a stolen base.
It's Oxy second consecutive extra inning game. The Tigers beat Marymount 4-3 in eight innings on a walk-off single by Alex Battest last weekend.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 1-6 on the season.
Puget Sound improves to 3-2.
