LOS ANGELES — The Occidental softball team lost twice to Alfred at Bell Field on Thursday.
Game 1: Alfred 3, Occidental 2
Delaney Russell pitched a solid seven innings, giving up just two earned runs, but the Tigers didn't have enough offense to beat Alfred in Game 1.
Russell, a first year from Lakewood, had good command of her pitches without a walk on the day. She blanked Alfred until the top of the fourth inning when the Saxons got a run and the fifth when they picked up two more.
Game 2: Alfred 9, Occidental 4
The Tigers racked up 10 hits, but only had four runs to show for them. Oxy led 2-1 until Alfred scored eight runs in the 3-5 innings to take control of the game.
Bailey Stevens went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a double, Skylar Wuelfing went 2 for 2 with an RBI-single, Delaney Russell went 2 for 3 with a run scored, Cassie Carter was 1 for 3 with a double, Alexandra Olkein was 1 for 4 with a run and an RBI, and Gatison had a pair of stolen bases and a run scored.
Madison Romero and Russell combined for seven innings in the circle for the Tigers.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 1-13 overall.
Alfred improves to 5-5 with all 10 of their games coming against SCIAC competition.
