Babij, earns second SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2010) – Announced today by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office, Occidental College women’s basketball player Stephanie Babij was named the Athlete of the Week for the time period of Jan. 25-31.

Last Thursday evening Babij scored a career high 30 points as the Tigers earned a 64-63 victory over the University of Redlands in a game that saw seven ties and numerous lead changes. The junior was 12-for-15 from the field while knocking down six free-throws, including the final two with just one second to play to clinch the win. She also grabbed seven rebounds and three steals.

She followed up that performance with a 3-for-5 shooting performance to finish with six points in limited action during Occidental’s 72-44 victory over Pomona-Pitzer, adding an assist and four rebounds.

Overall in SCIAC games this season the Ontario, Ore. native is averaging 15.9 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Babij was also named the SCIAC Athlete of the Week for her performance Jan. 4-10.
