Tigers Win Third Straight with Road Victory over LSU
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2010) - Oxy traveled to La Sierra tonight for their final non conference matchup of the season. The Tigers dominated both halves, as 12 of their 14 players scored, en route to a 71-42 decision.
The Tigers shot well from the field, hitting 45.6% overall, as well as knocking down 83.3% of their shots from the line. While LSU struggled finding any rhythm tonight, shooting less than 30% from the floor, as the Oxy defense held them to just 19 points in the first half on 8 of 29 shooting.
Up 35-19 at the half, there was a chance of a letdown coming out of the locker room, but the squad came out hungry and won that half by a 15 point margin. With the usual suspects leading the way on offense, as Gillian Nugent continued her hot shooting with 16 points, and, SCIAC Athlete of the Week, Stephanie Babij contributed 10 of her own, connecting on all five of her field goal attempts. Katelyn Rowe did the work in the paint, grabbing five boards to go along with nine points.
Also playing well, was Natalie Kolodinski who picked up six points while shooting 50% from the field and Elizabeth Little who also chipped in with six points but hauled in five rebounds. La Sierra was led by Kate Case's 18 points, but not far behind was teammate Laura Ramos who was one assist shy of a triple double, as she filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
The Tigers (11-4, 3-1 in SCIAC) will try and hold onto second place in the conference when they host Calech on Thursday, January 21st, with tip off at 7:30pm.t
