LOS ANGELES — Tori Larson scored a game-high five goals on five shots and the Occidental women's lacrosse team rattled off nine unanswered goals in the second half to cruise past North Central (Ill.) 14-9 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Tuesday.
Oxy improves to 7-1 overall. North Central drops to 1-2.
The Tigers fell behind 6-4 with 24 minutes, 37 seconds to play in the second half when Jordyn McFarlance found the net.
But then the Tigers started clicking with six different players scoring during a dominating stretch that lasted past the 5-minute mark. Larson scored three of her goals during the run, Alida Beck chipped in two and Beebe Finch Sanders won five of her game-high eight draw controls.
Mary Richardson did a good job of initiating offense, finding Beck twice and Larson once for three assists.
Kirsten Hee made seven saves in goal for the Tigers.
Rachel Houp led North Central (Ill.) with three goals and Leea Lopresti, Gina Fisher and McFarlance each added two.
In the first half, North Central (Ill.) goalie Sandy Stasaitis came out hot, saving six of the Tigers shots. Oxy wasn't able to find the net until nearly 18 minutes into the game when Rebecca Belding put away the Tigers first goal on a pass from Samantha Stewart.
Oxy's defense came out hot too, playing aggressively and slotting early which took away shot opportunities and forced North Central (Ill.) to move the ball.
The Tigers took a 3-2 first-half lead when Larson scored her second goal of the first half, putting Oxy up 3-2 with 5:18 to play.
The Cardinals countered with a pair of goals by Gina Fisher and Leea Lopresti, taking a 4-3 lead into halftime.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday against Pacific Lutheran (Wa.) at 4 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
The Tigers return to action on March 25 against North Central (Ill.) at 7 p.m.
