But the Occidental women's lacrosse team let a big first-half lead slip away against a good Colorado College team at Jack Kemp Stadium on Sunday.
Oxy suffers its second loss of the season, falling to 8-2. Colorado College improves to 11-3.
Oxy played solid defense early and converted on the offensive end, jumping out to a 5-0 lead when Finch Sanders found the net with 12:16 left in the first half.
Madeline Pitkin, who finished with a game-high four goals off of the bench for Colorado College, scored her team's only first-half goal with 8:45 on the clock. In the second half, she tied the game on a free position and then scored again moments later, giving Colorado College its first lead, 8-7, with 10:17 to play.
Mary Taussig and Virginia Logue gave Colorado College a two-goal cushion with scores around the 5-minute mark.
Finch Sanders cut the lead to 10-9 with 4 minutes to play, but Oxy couldn't scratch again as Colorado College extended its possessions.
Oxy is all set to return to SCIAC play for the second round of the regular season. With five games in the books, the Tigers are in first place at 5-0. Their next game is at Redlands — the defending SCIAC champions — on April 6 at 7 p.m.
