LOS ANGELES — Ciara Byrne scored five goals as the Occidental women's lacrosse team beat Pomona-Pitzer in its regular-season home finale, 11-9 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday.
Byrne showed off her athleticism, attacking the cage aggressively all game. She also picked up three ground balls and had a pair of caused turnovers.
"Ciara was huge with her five goals and our defense was great holding Pomona-Pitzer to single digits," Oxy head coach Steph Mark said. "I'm so proud of this group for tonight's effort and it was a fun SCIAC win."
It's the first time that Oxy has beaten Pomona-Pitzer at Patterson Field since 2014. The Tigers took both games against the Sagehens this year.
After Pomona-Pitzer took a 7-5 lead with the first two goals of the second half, Oxy turned it on, rattling off six unanswered goals to take control of the game.
Sierra Slack started the run with one of her three goals with 24:38 remaining.
Pomona-Pitzer had Sallie Marx, Sophie Hubbell, Sonia Olson and Rebecca Long all score two goals.
Emma Barrow picked up five ground balls for Oxy.
Oxy senior Rebecca Reese, who's missed time this year with a foot injury, was able to play in her final regular season home game. She was honored with a brief pregame ceremony after an outstanding four-year career at Oxy.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 11-3 overall and 5-3 in SCIAC play. Oxy sits in third place, two games back of Chapman (7-1) and two games ahead of Redlands (3-5).
The Tigers have clinched a spot in the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament and can clinch the third seed with any win or Redlands loss.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action at Redlands on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then finishes the regular season at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 1 p.m.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
