LA VERNE – Karina Garcia (Alhambra) scored her second goal of the season in the closing minutes of the first half, but the Occidental College women's soccer team gave up a last-minute goal and had to settle for a 1-1 draw at La Verne on Wednesday.

Garcia pushed her attempt past La Verne's Gloria Escalante in the 41st minute to give the Tigers (4-9-2, 3-8-2 SCIAC) a 1-0 lead going into halftime and Oxy held the lead for 44 more minutes in the second half.

Then in the 90th minute with 28 seconds left in the match, La Verne's Olga Saldivar found the back of the net for the Leopards (4-10-2, 1-10-2 SCIAC) to tie the game and snatch the victory away from the Tigers.

Neither team could get anything going in the overtime, with the only shot coming in the 93rd minute from Marisella Macias that was saved by Oxy's Tayler Renshaw (Phoenix, Ariz.).

The two teams played a back-and-forth match and posted nearly identical stats.

Oxy registered a total of 12 shots with five on target, while La Verne fired 13 with five on goal. Renshaw and Escalante allowed a goal each and saved four shots each. Both teams had four corner kicks and Oxy committed 10 fouls to La Verne's nine.

Kate Correll-Buss (Denver, Colo.) and Michaela Tsuha (Honolulu) had four shots each, and Whitney Roline (Eugene, Ore.) added two for the Tigers.

Oxy looks to finish the season on a high note when they host Chapman for its last match of the season on Saturday.
