LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team fell to Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 at Jack Kemp Stadium on Wednesday.
Lily Gane scored the game's only goal in the 27th minute from just inside the 6-yard box on a nice inside pass from Bria VarnBuhler.
VarnBuhler nearly made it 2-0 moments later, but her angle on the right side of the net was closed by Oxy goalkeeper Dallas Gunny, who made a nice save.
Oxy's best chance of the first half came in the 37th minute from Nicole Castro. She faked a left-footed look, touched it back to her right where she had space, and hit a high shot that needed a save from Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper Isa Berardo.
Castro created a great chance for the Tigers in the 51st minute. She played a ball into the box that Erin Iacullo redirected toward a charging Molly Callans. Callans had a good look at the net from just a few steps away, but she got a bad bounce and wasn't able to get solid contact on the ball.
Oxy's Robin Waymouth had a decent look at the goal from 25 yards out, but her shot in the 60th minute was saved.
Iacullo had a nice shot on a counter attack in the 75th minute. From the left side of the 18-yard box, she cut the ball back to her right foot and fired a shot that was saved.
In the 82nd minute, Megan Maher hit a right-footed volley from the top of the box that looked like it had hope before sailing over the bar.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 4-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in SCIAC.
