LOS ANGELES — Sydney Tomlinson keeps racking up the postseason awards.
The senior goalkeeper and co-captain of the Occidental women's soccer team was named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American last week after leading Oxy to its best season in program history.
Tomlinson, who's from Bellevue, Wash., has already been named First Team All-SCIAC, First Team All-West Region and was the SCIAC Tournament MVP. The Tigers won at Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC Semifinal and then at Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC Tournament Final, advancing to their first NCAA Division III playoffs.
Oxy fell to Trinity (Texas) at Hardin-Simmons 1-0 in the first round. The Tigers went 10-3-5 overall and finished tied for second place in the SCIAC at 8-2-4.
With Tomlinson as the anchor, Oxy had an outstanding defensive season, allowing just seven goals all season. She started every game, making 83 saves with a goals against average of 0.37.
Tomlinson was one of several members of the Occidental program that were recognized for their part in helping Oxy to a great season. Colm McFeely and his assistant coaches (Jaime Acuna, Tayler Renshaw, Amanda Mills, Kellee Murayama, Robert Jorgensen and Grace Sponaugle) were named the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year, Isabella Bonomi was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, Karla Alas-Lopez and Nicole Castro were also named First Team All-SCIAC, and Elleni Bekele was named Second Team All-SCIAC.
