OXY ATHLETES MOVE UP ON SCHOOL'S ALL-TIME LISTBy Michael Wells Sports Information Director
REDLANDS — Claire Larson (Columbus, Ohio) was less than 1 second away from winning her third SCIAC championship in the 800 meters and a handful of Occidental track and field athletes moved up on the school's all-time lists at the SCIAC championships at Redlands on Saturday.
Oxy placed fifth as a team with 46 points and finishes the SCIAC season in fifth. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the meet with 164 points.
Larson, who won the 800 in 2008 and 2009, crossed the line in 2 minutes, 16.33 seconds, just after CMS' Kelly Garton finished in 2:15.76.
In the 3000 steeplechase, Tara Saxena (Palo Alto) and Sierra Walker (San Diego) finished third and fourth in the race and moved up to second and third respectively on Oxy's all-time list. Saxena went 11:19.31 and Walker, 11:27.77.
Lauren Johnson (Chicago) moved up a couple of places on Oxy's big board. The senior went 15:06 in the 100-meter hurdles, good enough for third place at the meet and the fourth-best mark in Oxy history.
Oxy's 4x400 relay team of Ayana Foster, Sirena Van Epp (Westfield, N.J.), Meghan Fruth (Camarillo) and Larson also made the school's top 10, finishing the relay in 3:56.22, fourth at the meet and the eighth-best mark ever for a Tigers team.
Oxy returns home for the Oxy Invite on May 5.
