LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2009) – The Occidental women’s volleyball squad earned a pair of victories over the weekend, pushing their overall record to 13-14, inching closer to the .500 mark with just three matches to play.
On Friday evening the Tigers traveled next door to Pasadena, Calif. where they defeated the Caltech Beavers 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-10) on the court. Saturday they headed east for a double dip. The Tigers fell 0-3 to SCIAC foe University of Redlands before winning 3-0 at La Sierra University on Saturday night.
Leading the pack in the two SCIAC matches was Logan Boyer-Hayse who tallied 12 kills each day. Kasey Rose tagged the Beavers with 12 kills as well, adding eight against the Bulldogs.
At Caltech Kathryn Bockmon had a team-high 11 digs and Rose had a solo block with two assists.
Against Redlands Boyer-Hayse and Rose combined for 27 digs as four players reached double figures. Ashley Rosenbaum finished with four block assists as the Tigers together had 6.5 blocks. Clare Bolton recorded the only solo block of the night. Though UR won the match 25-22, 25-18, 25-20, the Tigers were in it throughout and played competitive volleyball all night.
Saturday evening to cap off the weekend Rose led all players with 13 kills, hitting at a .423 clip, while Boyer-Hayse contributed 12 as she hit .296. Emily Repsher notched 15 assists and Megan Upp was credited with nine. Rose also led all Tigers with 11 digs and Elke Teichmann finished with two solo blocks. Oxy won in three games by scores of 25-6, 25-13 and 25-21.
Occidental is now 4-7 in SCIAC play and sit in sixth place ahead of Whittier College. The Tigers will host the Poets on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Rush Gymnasium in their second to last home volleyball match of the season.
