LEXINGTON, Ken. — Logan Boyer-Hayse (Boulder, CO) was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's All-West Region team on Thursday, after leading the Occidental College women's volleyball team to a second place regular season finish and the team's first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship.
Boyer-Hayse had 15 kills in the Tigers (21-8, 11-3) win at Cal Lutheran University on Nov. 5, helping Oxy earn its first bid to the NCAA Division III postseason tournament since they won the SCIAC regular season championship in 1992.
"Logan deserves this all-region accomplishment," Occidental coach Heather Collins said. "She's worked extremely hard this year to develop her all around game, to go along with some of the better outside hitting in the nation."
The junior outside hitter was first in the conference with 3.78 kills per set and sixth in digs with 3.75.
Boyer-Hayse has had 15 or more kills in four of Oxy's wins over nationally ranked teams this season, including a 25 in a win over No. 10 Southwestern (Tex.) on Sept. 17.
It is the second time Boyer-Hayse has been recognized by the AVCA for her outstanding play—Last year the economics major made the All-Region squad and was an AVCA Third Team All-American.
"It's an honor and nice to be recognized," Boyer-Hayse said. "But our team accomplishments are a lot more important to me and show a lot more about our season."
Oxy opens the first round of postseason play against Pacific Lutheran at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
