LOS ANGELES -- Hannah Wagner and Claire Strohm were efficient and powerful in their attack, combining for 24 kills, leading the Occidental women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Chapman at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday, 25-20, 27-25, 25-15.
The Tigers improve to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC play.
Chapman falls to 4-4 and 0-2.
Wagner finished with 10 kills on .364 hitting, including a pair of kills late in the second and most competitive set that helped Oxy hold off the Panthers and jump out to a 2-0 set lead.
Strohm led the match with a game-high 14 kills on .500 hitting. She also had a pair of aces and a team-high nine digs.
"We really stepped up and showed grit after a tough loss last night on the road," Oxy head coach Heather Collins said, referring to Oxy's SCIAC-opening loss at Redlands on Friday night. "We took pride in the fact that it was our first home conference match, refocused, executed and played all out on our home court."
Chapman's best offensive effort came from Kylie Cooke, who had a team-high 10 kills. Eve Silverman chipped in eight.
Oxy is back in action on Tuesday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m.
