Tigers Compete at Cal Lu Tourney

THOUSAND OAKS – The Occidental women's water polo team had a busy weekend competing in the Tina Finali Invitational at Cal Lutheran. Oxy played four games against NCAA Division I and II scholarship schools.

Cal State Bakersfield 18 Occidental 1

The Tigers kicked things off with a rematch with No. 24 Cal State Bakersfield. Hi'ipoi Lee scored the lone goal for the Tigers.

Fresno Pacific 19 Occidental 6

Fresno Pacific got off to a fast start, going on an 8-0 run to start the first quarter. Occidental's offense started to get things going in second quarter, but the Tigers had too big of a hole to dig out of.

Abby Appel led the Tigers with two goals. Anna De Groot had six saves.

Cal State East Bay 18 Occidental 8

The Tigers kept things close with Cal State East Bay in the first half, only trailing 11-8. But the Tigers were shut out in second half and East Bay was able to score on four goals on 6-on-5 advantage plays.

Carly Zurcher had a good game with a tournament-high four goals for the Tigers. Anna De Groot made six saves.

St Francis (PA) 9 Occidental 4

Occidental played their best game against St Francis, holding the Red Flash to three goals at the end of the first half. But the Tigers weren't able to get on the board until the end of the third quarter.

Hi'ipoi Lee, Claudia Oppermann, Mirei Yasuda and Lori Berberian all chipped in a goal for the Tigers.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 0-9.

Next Game: The Tigers compete in the Claremont Convergence tournament hosted by CMS next weekend. Their first match is against Caltech at 10 a.m.
