SANTA CLARITA — Roxanne Valle led the way with a 16th-place finish as the Occidental women's cross country team placed 7th of 30 teams at The Master's Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
The Tigers were the top NCAA Division III school in a mix of Division I and NAIA Scholarship teams. USC and UCLA were two of the five teams that finished above Oxy.
"We're really proud of the team," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "Their attitude and effort this morning were fantastic and they did a wonderful job of trying to execute our race plan. We took a nice step forward from our last meet. We'll go back to work this week, hoping to do the same next week."
UCLA took first in the competition and Amber Gore of USC was the overall individual winner at 17:45.8.
Valle crossed the line 16th overall at 18:25.7 for Oxy's best.
"Roxanne ran with a lot of composure and confidence, and was rewarded with a nice course personal record," Bartlett said. "I'm excited to watch her race again in two weeks as she continues to grow into the season."
