Oxy Drops Game 1 at Chapman

ORANGE — The Occidental baseball team lost Game 1 of an important three-game series with Chapman on Friday.

The Tigers likely need to beat Chapman twice on Saturday and have Cal Lutheran lose one game to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to make the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament that determines the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Oxy's Friday starter Josh Cohen pitched well for Oxy, going all eight innings on the mound with just two earned runs and five strikeouts.

The Tigers struggled with the bats, managing just one hit by Antonio Andrade, who went 1 for 3.

Matt Mogollon was great for the Panthers, pitching a complete game with one hit, three walks and 11 strikeouts.

Next Game: Oxy finishes the regular season with a doubleheader against Chapman at Oxy's Anderson Field on Saturday. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 11 a.m.
