CLAREMONT — The Occidental men's basketball team will play at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC Semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m.

Oxy, which has gone 21-4 overall and 12-4 in SCIAC, is the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Tigers have been receiving votes in the D3hoops.com National Top 25 poll for the past couple of weeks, currently at 19 votes and 30th in the country.

The Tigers are coming off a good victory over National No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer 64-63 last Saturday, spoiling their undefeated SCIAC season. The win preserved the 2003-04 Oxy team as the only undefeated SCIAC team in modern history.

CMS is 19-6 overall and 13-3 in SCIAC as the No. 2 seed.

CMS won both match ups against Oxy this season, beating the Tigers 63-60 at Rush Gym and at CMS 65-57.

The game is a showdown of two of NCAA Division III's best defensive teams. CMS ranks sixth in the country in field goal percentage defense at 38.3 and the Tigers are 12th at 39.2. 

SCIAC Tournament Details

No. 4 Redlands plays at No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer in the other Semifinal at 7 p.m.

The winners of the Semifinals will advance to the SCIAC Championship Game on Saturday night with the highest remaining seed hosting at 7 p.m.

The winner of the SCIAC Tournament receives the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

How to Watch

Admission for students, faculty and administrators with a school ID is free. Children under 12 are admitted free. Regular admission is $ 10 and $ 5 for those over the age of 55 and for military.

The game will be live streamed free of charge by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the SCIAC Portal.

Oxy Scouting Report 

Oxy is led by senior standouts Zach Baines and Austin DeWitz, and juniors Ryan Kaneshiro and Caleb Yellin-Flaherty

Baines is Oxy's best scorer, averaging 19.1 points per game in SCIAC play on 49 percent shooting. He's also averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. 

DeWitz in the SCIAC's leading rebounder at 9.1 rebounds per game and is rarely off the court, averaging 37.8 minutes per game. He is scoring 16 points per game on 50 percent shooting and averages 3.9 assists per game.

Kaneshiro is Oxy's best defender and passer. He leads the SCIAC in assists at 5.9 assists per game and is nation's leader in assist to turnover ratio at 5.33.

Yellin-Flaherty is Oxy's third leading scorer at 12.8 points per game on 54 percent shooting. He's active on the glass at both ends of the court, averaging 5.9 rebounds per game.

Jacob Adler is Oxy's sharpshooter off the bench, averaging 10.6 points per game and shooting 40 percent from three. 

CMS Scouting Report

Nicolas Segura is CMS' top scorer at 16 points per game on 50 percent shooting. The 6-foot-7 slasher is averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. 

Miles President is a key defender, shooter and driver for CMS, leading the team in minutes at 33 per game. He is scoring 12.1 points per game and is a career 42 percent shooter from three and 86 percent from the free throw line.

Jeremy Horn is CMS' 6-foot-9 post that averages 10 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game in 21 minutes per game. 

Mark Sui and Mitchell Kirsch round out the CMS starting lineup. Both are very good defenders and good outside shooters.
