Paredes, Tigers Settle for Draw

LOS ANGELESAdrian Paredes and the Occidental men's soccer team put the pressure on Concordia (Texas) all night.

But despite four headers on the frame from Paredes and a dozen or so great opportunities by Oxy overall, the Tigers did not score in a 0-0 overtime draw in their third game of the season at Jack Kemp Stadium on Friday night.

Season Impact: Oxy and Concordia (Texas) are both now 1-1-1.

First Half Highlights

The Tigers controlled most of the opportunities, outshooting Concordia (Texas) 6-2 in the first half.

Oxy's best chance to score came just after the 30th minute when Paredes had a pair of headers that needed saves on consecutive set pieces.  After a foul, Ryan Wilson played a nice ball to the middle of 6-yard box, Paredes headed it on the frame, but Concordia (Texas) goalkeeper Erik Rodriguez punched it over the cross bar. On the ensuing corner, Parades hit another header that was saved, David Paine followed it with a one-timed shot, but missed wide left.

Second Half Highlights

Paine had a nice volley that sailed high on a corner kick from Matthew Teplitz in the 53rd minute. Just moments later, Nicolas Eble nearly finished off a rolling cross from Teplitz, but it was saved again by Rodriguez.

Joel Abrego had Concordia's best chance in the 59th minute, hitting a bouncing shot that was saved by diving Oxy goalkeeper Will Baltrus.

Paredes had a third header that missed just high in the 67th minute on a throw in from Joey Schwartz, and a fourth header go high in the 74th minute.

Eble had a semi-bicycle kick opportunity with 3 minutes left. He volleyed a ball over his left shoulder, but Rodriguez made a diving save.
