LOS ANGELES — Josh Dancu and the Occidental men's tennis team played their best tennis of the season to win their second match in two days, sweeping Hardin-Simmons 9-0 at Scholl Canyon on Saturday.
The Tigers improve to 3-4 overall. Hardin-Simmons falls to 1-5.
Oxy won all three doubles on Friday on its way to a 6-3 win over Clark University. Up until that match, Oxy had played well in singles competition, but left some wins on the table by losing its doubles matches.
From the Coach: "We're playing much better tennis, especially our three doubles teams," Oxy head coach Brian Newhall said. "I'm proud of our entire team's effort to pick up a pair of wins in back-to-back days against quality teams."
Dancu won at No. 1 singles, beating Nathan Chavez, 6-2, 6-1, and also teamed up with Avery Chernin to beat Chavez and Andrew Eurek, 8-5. Dancu improves his overall season record to 5-2 at No. 1 singles.
Chernin won his second consecutive match at No. 2 singles, improving to 2-0 at that spot. He is now 4-1, playing as Oxy's No. 2 and No. 3.
"Chernin has stepped up in a big way at No. 2 singles with Eric Kazangian out of the lineup," Newhall said. "We look forward to his continued improvement as the season progresses."
Bryson Lee picked up his second win at No. 4 singles.
The Tigers compete in maybe the best NCAA Division III conference for men's tennis. In non-conference competition Oxy is 2-1.
Next Match: Oxy returns to action against Salisbury on March 16 at 4 p.m. The Tigers are in the middle of a eight-game non-conference stretch of games before resuming SCIAC play at Redlands on March 27.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
