LOS ANGELES — For the first time in at least 15 years, the Occidental men's tennis team had two players recognized on the All-SCIAC teams.
First year David Zhang and sophomore Lucas Chmielewski both made the Second Team in the No. 1 NCAA Division III tennis conference in the country, and senior captain Cameron Coe earned the SCIAC Character Award.
Chmielewski and Coe are coming off an impressive semi-final run at the Ojai Tournament.
"Cameron is probably the best character guy I've coached in 15 years as a head coach," Oxy head coach David Bojalad said. "He respects the opponent, he always gives the benefit of his doubt to the opponent, makes good line calls and competes the right way."
Chmielewski played No. 1 all year for Oxy, going up against some of the best players in the conference, highlighted by wins over highly-ranked Cal Lutheran, Chapman and Pacific (Ore.) No. 1s.
Zhang was Oxy's No. 2 with solid wins over Whittier, Chapman, Redlands, Pacific (Ore.) and Cal Lutheran.
"This is an incredible honor for the two of them," Bojalad. "This is a good time for our program, getting two All-Conference players and we weren't far away from getting a third."
Joseph Schwarcz was on the short list of players left off the team. He also had wins over Redlands and Cal Lutheran, playing well at No. 4.Follow Oxy Athletics on Twitter Sign Up for Newsletters Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
