PASADENA — The Occidental men's water polo team used a 6-0 run in the third quarter to push past Caltech 12-7 on the road on Tuesday.

"We played with purpose and executed well in big moments," Oxy head coach Jack Stabenfeldt said. "We need to carry this focus into our next conference game on Thursday."

Nicolas Lipari led the way for Oxy with four goals, two assists and a steal. Jason Teng added two goals and one assist, Elijah Havens had a goal and two assists, and Alexander Zim had a pair of goals.

With the score tied at 3-3, Lipari, Teng, Zim, Cian Concannon, Wilson Noll, and Elijah Havens all scored, putting Oxy up 9-3 by the end of the third quarter.

Oxy's defense and ball pressure eventually allowed the Tigers to break through.

"Coming into the game we knew that strong ball pressure on defense would be key," Stabenfeldt said. "Our first quarter intensity was great and we strung together great defensive possessions. Our consistent counter attack in the first half didn't create much, but it eventually allowed us to go on a 6-0 run in the third quarter.

Henry Grady made 10 saves and had two steals for Oxy.

The Tigers improve to 11-8 overall and 1-6 in SCIAC play.

Oxy is back in action against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday at Taylor Pool at 4 p.m.
