Oxy Falls in SCIAC Game at ULV

LA VERNE — The Occidental men's water polo team came up a little short in an 18-10 road loss against La Verne on Saturday.

After giving up two goals in the first 2 minutes, the Tigers settled in and played the Leopards evenly for the rest of the half, going into the locker room down 8-6. La Verne pushed its lead to three goals on a few occasions in the first half, but never further.

In the second half, the Leopards went on a 6-1 run that lasted the entire third quarter and 2:39 of the fourth, putting the game out of reach.

The Tigers continued their balanced offensive attack, led by Nicolas Lipari and Nate Fisher who each scored two goals. Shea Grosz and Jarrod Norton each had a goal and an assist, and Jasper Lee, Cian Concannon, Kellen Radtkey and Christian Guillaume all scored one goal.

Chucky Ortega led the Leopards with five goals and two assists, and Guillermo Oscasio had four goals and one assist. 

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in SCIAC play.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Redlands on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Oxy then plays at the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont on the weekend of Oct. 4-5 before playing its first home game of the season against Caltech on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
