ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Occidental men's cross country team finished 13th at what is considered the Pre-National Championship meet on Saturday.

Led by Keenan Leary, who took 46th overall with a time of 25:57.54, Oxy beat and ran alongside some of the best teams in the country at the Cowbell Classic hosted by Principia College.

Oxy is looking to qualify for the National Championships as a team for the second year in a row.

"It was another good experience to face a national-caliber field on the national course," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "The men fully expect to make another appearance in the Division III championships this year."

Austin Sankaran was Oxy's second best in 58th at 26:09.16, Thomas Robertson was next at 26:35.82, Brody Barkan ran 26:40.17 and Jovani Barajas rounded out Oxy's five scorers at 26:48.70.

The times across the board in the 8K were particularly slow because of a high heat index.

Isaac Garcia-Cassani won the race at 24:41.02 and North Central took the team crown.

The Tigers are back in action at the SCIAC Championships at Prado Park on Nov. 4.
