SANTA CLARITA — Brody Barkan led the Occidental men's cross country team to a second-place finish out of 29 teams at The Master's University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Barkan was the second Division III runner to finish, crossing the line in 13th overall at 25:39 for a personal record.
"Brody had the best race he's had over 8K and thoroughly deserved his PR today," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "He's on course to have a great senior season."
The field of 183 runners included multiple NCAA Division II and NAIA Scholarship teams, along with several SCIAC teams.
Oxy lost to just Biola, which had overall winner Gabe Plendcio at 24:52.1.
"We're really proud of the team," Bartlett said. "Their attitude and effort this morning were fantastic and they did a wonderful job of trying to execute our race plan. We took a nice step forward from our last meet. We'll go back to work this week, hoping to do the same next week."
