CHINO — The Occidental men's cross country team had an impressive showing at the SCIAC Championship, finishing second overall at Prado Park on Saturday.

Thoman Robertson finished third overall (26:29.1), Brody Barkan was eighth (26:43.1) and Charles Sheh finished 18th (26:56.4) in the 8K, earning All-SCIAC honors. Both Robertson and Barkan's times earned them First Team All-SCIAC and Sheh's landed him on the Second Team.

Tim McClure was 23rd overall (27:07.7) and Conor Brennan was 26th (27:24.2), rounding out Oxy's five scorers.

"The men stepped up in a big way today," Oxy head coach Rob Bartlett said. "They trained hard, they prepared well for this meet and they performed when they had to. Finishing second is a very nice accomplishment."

Pomona-Pitzer, which is ranked No. 10 in the nation, won the meet with 23 points and all five runners in the top 10. Oxy was second at 74 points and CMS was third at 81.

Oxy, which came into the meet ranked No. 4 in the West Region, is likely to move up after beating West Region No. 2 CMS. UC Santa Cruz is No. 3 and Pomona-Pitzer is No. 1.

Next Meet: The Tigers are back in action on Nov. 10 at the NCAA Division III West Regionals at Whitman at 11 a.m. The Tigers can qualify as a team for the NCAA Division III National Championship with an automatic bid by finishing first or second. If they are lower they will have to rely on a possible at-large bid.

"We're excited to get back to work and we look forward to the West Region Championship," Bartlett said.
