Bartlett joined the Occidental coaching staff in 2005 as an assistant cross country and track & field coach. As an assistant, Bartlett helped coach the men’s cross country team to its first SCIAC Championship in 11 years in 2006.
Since taking over as the head coach of the Occidental College Track & Field and Cross Country programs in January of 2007, Rob Bartlett has led the cross country teams to five Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships — three with the men and two with the women — coached 57 individual SCIAC Champions and has twice been named the USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country West Region Coach of the Year. Bartlett was also named the USTFCCCA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field West Region Coach of the Year in 2016. In 2011, Bartlett led the men's cross country team to its first NCAA Division III West Region title since the program last won it in 1991. Bartlett was also named the SCIAC Coach of the Year for Men’s Track & Field in 2015 and 2017, and the SCIAC Coach of the Year for Women’s Track & Field in 2016.
On the national level, the Tigers have had 45 All-American performances and 79 Academic All-Americans during Coach Bartlett’s tenure. Student-athletes coached by Bartlett have broken eleven Occidental Track & Field School Records and produced 169 performances that rank amongst the top ten ever in Occidental track & field history.
Prior to coaching at Occidental Bartlett competed for the Tigers as an exchange student in 2003 before completing his undergraduate studies at the University of East Anglia in his native United Kingdom.
While coaching at Occidental, Rob received his Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from the University of Concordia in Irvine.
Bartlett has an IAAF Level Five and USATF Level Three certification in endurance events and he is a USATF Level Two certified coach in sprints, hurdles, relays, and jumps.
