LOS ANGELES — Shariah Green and the Occidental women's basketball team were dominant inside and on the glass as the Tigers improved to 2-0 with a 77-44 blowout win over Bethesda at Rush Gymnasium on Monday.
Green, a 6-foot-2 sophomore forward that had 17 points on 6 for 12 shooting in Oxy's season-opening win over La Sierra on Saturday, had another huge night with 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting, and 18 rebounds. She caught lobs over the top, high low passes, turned over both shoulders and was effective from the elbow area.
Green got help down low from Emily Leonard, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Tala Isamil, who scored 17 with seven rebounds and six steals that led to easy breaks in transition. Triana Anderson had six points, six assists, three steals and seven rebounds, and Alyssa Ramlochan chipped in six points, five rebounds and four assists. Taylor Yoshida added eight points off the bench for the Tigers.
The Tigers outrebounded the Flames 56-32, including grabbing 19 at the offensive end. Oxy cleaned up its passing from its season opener, assisting on 19 baskets with just 13 turnovers.
Oxy also played well on defense without fouling much, holding Bethesda to just 30 percent shooting from the field.
Bethesda's best effort came from Angela Steel who had 13 points.
