Oxy Comes Up Short at La Verne


LA VERNE — The Occidental women's basketball team came up a little short at La Verne in an 80-64 loss to the Leopards on Wednesday night.

Alyssa Ramlochan led Oxy with 17 points, six rebounds and four steals, Taylor Yoshida had 10 points, three assists and three steals, and Kaelinani Nallira added 11 points off the bench on 3 for 6 shooting and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Emily Leonard and Raveena Dhiman each scored seven points for Oxy.

Clarissa Perez scored a game-high 27 points and Monica Garcia Silva added 15 to lead La Verne.

Oxy took care of the ball with just 11 turnovers, but didn't shoot well, going just 30 percent from the floor on the game. Oxy also struggled on the boards, losing the rebounding battle 68-41, including 25 at the offensive end of the court. 

"We battled together and kept responding positively and with heart to adversity," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. 

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 7-11 on the season and 1-8 in SCIAC play.

La Verne improves to 10-8 and 5-5.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, hosting Caltech at 2 p.m.
