Khil finishes Off Chapman in 2OT Thriller

Occidental 1, Chapman 0

Players of the Game: Occidental sophomore forward Julie Khil kept the pressure on the Panthers all game long, unleashing 5 shots with 4 on goal and found the net for the lone goal in Oxy's 2OT win.

Chapman goalie Kristin Kleinow kept the Panthers alive all game by totaling 10 saves, only allowing Khil's game winning shot slip by her.

Play of the Game: In the 102nd minute of action, freshman Alana Hillman sent the ball down the line to junior Michaela Tsuha. Tsuha gathered it and crossed it into the box to Khil who kicked into the corner of the net giving Oxy the well deserved victory and keeping the team's record unblemished.

Impact Players: The Tigers' defenders, led by seniors Abigail Mitchell and Taryn Ng, were outstanding all game and limited Chapman's shot attempts to 7 with only 4 on goal. The Panthers continued to creep into Oxy's box but were smothered by Oxy defenders each time, leaving them unable to cleanly play the ball.

Turning Point: Late in the first half, Chapman forward Rebeccah Bortz broke away from Oxy defenders and gained a clear path to the goal, but Mitchell closed the gap and forced the ball out of bounds clearing the Tigers of danger.

Stat of the Match: The Tigers attacked continuously throughout the match, out-shooting the Panthers 16-7.

From the Coach: "I'm glad to see that our girls didn't quit, they kept going. Chapman is a good team and they try to wear you down," said Oxy head coach Colm McFeely. "There were patches where we weren't at our best but we stuck with it, showed great team spirit, and a wonderful effort and attitude. We need to keep that going and work on some of the things within the game, but I think we're going in the right direction."

Season Impact: The Tigers are off to one of their best starts in years. A 2-0 record in SCIAC play helps Oxy gain needed momentum as they head into the meat of their season.

Oxy improves to 4-0 and 2-0 in SCIAC

Next Game: The Tigers next host the Sagehens from Pomona-Pitzer Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00PM at Jack Kemp Stadium.
