Alas-Lopez, Kim Earn SCIAC Player of the Week Honors

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's soccer team swept the SCIAC weekly awards after a win and a draw moved Oxy into a tie for first place in the standings.

Karla Alas-Lopez earned Defensive Player of the Week and Katherine Kim was named Offensive Player of the Week.

In a pair of road games, Oxy beat Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 and tied Cal Lutheran 0-0.

The Tigers remain undefeated and are tied for first with Pomona-Pitzer at 19 points.

Alas-Lopez, a junior from Reseda, and the rest of Oxy's defense have only surrendered two goals all season and just one in SCIAC play, with a streak of six consecutive shutouts going back to Sept. 14. As a center back she's been the leader of the back line.

Kim, a senior from Oak Park, scored the game-winning penalty kick against the Sagehens for her second goal of the season. She has created chances and offense for the Tigers throughout the season.

Oxy is 6-0-4 overall and 5-0-4 in SCIAC with five conference games to go.

Oxy is back in action on Wednesday against Whittier at 7 p.m. at Jack Kemp Stadium.
